How light and dark mode switching works

When you switch themes, PaletteDesk doesn't pick new random colors — it shows the dark or light version of the exact palette you're already working with.

Your palette is a pair

Any palette you land on has exactly one dark version and exactly one light version, tied to each other. Switching themes moves between the two sides of the same palette — it never creates a new one.

Background and text swap places, while your accent color stays exactly the same in both themes — that's what keeps your palette recognizable regardless of mode.

What actually changes

Background and text simply swap in lightness: a dark background becomes light, and light text becomes dark, and vice versa. The hue and character of your colors aren't touched. Your accent and primary colors — the ones you chose as your brand colors — don't change at all: a button stays the same color whether you're on dark or light.

Nothing gets lost

Switch to light mode without changing anything by hand, then switch back to dark — you'll see the exact palette you started with, down to the last detail. If you do tweak something while on light mode, switching back to dark will reflect that edit.
