Frequently asked questions

What is PaletteDesk?

A color palette generator that shows your colors applied to a real interface mockup — buttons, background, text — instead of just isolated swatches.

Is it free?

Yes, PaletteDesk is currently completely free.

How is this different from other palette generators?

Most generators show colors as a grid of isolated squares. PaletteDesk applies the palette to a real UI mockup right away — with roles like background, accent, and text — plus contrast checking and multi-format export in the same tool.

What does the contrast checker do?

It calculates the contrast ratio between your chosen colors against the WCAG standard and shows whether the combination meets accessibility requirements (AA/AAA) for text and interface elements.

What formats can I export my palette to?

At minimum: a Tailwind config, CSS variables, and JSON — pick whichever fits your stack.

If I switch between light and dark mode, will I lose my colors?

No — switching themes doesn't pick new colors, it shows the dark or light version of the exact palette you already have. More on how that works: how light and dark mode switching works

Do I need to sign up?

No account needed — your whole palette setup is stored right in the page URL, so you can share it or bookmark it.

What devices and browsers does this work on?

PaletteDesk works in any modern browser on desktop and mobile — no separate app required.
